Whatever you do, don't fall asleep...

Many of us like scaring ourselves and it is not just the actual scares but the anticipation we love - waiting for the horror to strike - like playing murder in the dark; crouching, hiding, waiting to be found. What really gets under a horror-lover's skin is a curiosity about what might be out there, waiting to be discovered. Maniacs, ghosts, bogeymen, vampires, shape-shifters, robots and demons, we seem to enjoy reading or watching their dark deeds and accounts of secret battles happening beneath our radar, right at the corner of our eye.
And our favourite monsters (human or otherwise) tend to be those who we can feel some empathy for, or connection with, even as we fear them. They are human enough to make us compare our actions with theirs, and so question our own morals and the decisions we make.
